The first week of June the first new Belgian MIRG-team started its training. Place of handling: the simulator of the Calais fire service. The programme focused on the embarkation procedure.
All new recruited MIRG-EU members for the Zeeland teams came together for a first meeting in the Vlissingen fire station on 15 May. Zeeland project leader Jeroen Brussé introduced them to the ins and outs of the project.
The MIRG-EU trainers were trained themselves during an intensive one week programme in Calais last April. To get an idea of what the men did watch this short clip on You Tube.
Last week Belgian, Dutch and French MIRG-members were trained by their English colleagues to become MIRG-trainers themselves. The new trainers will instruct and train the new MIRGs in their own country. The first courses start in June.
As a nominee for the Safety Award, the MIRG-EU project presented itself at the annual Day of the Safety Region on 4 April in The Hague. The booth put the project in the spotlight. It attracted a lot of attention.
In an old machine factory, candidates for the Zeeland MIRG had to show they are fit to do the MIRG-work. They had to perform several exercises such as rolling out a 20 meter long fire hose, climbing a high ladder using a breathing air set,

Zeeland’s port authority Zeeland Seaports works with the Safety Region Zeeland. They joined forces to keep the ports of Vlissingen and Terneuzen and the shipping lanes safe.
On 23 January the MIRG partners met at the Beach Guard Station in Vlissingen, The Netherlands.
